#tbt - 10 years and counting: West Chester continues to serve the public

On today’s ThrowBackThursday blog we’re reminded just how fast time flies as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of our West Chester location on Centre Pointe Drive!

When it opened in November 2009, the nearly 50,000 square-foot building was described by township administrators as the “focal point of West Chester’s Downtown district and a central gathering space for the entire community.” (*)

That’s a role we relish.

The new library more than tripled the size of its predecessor on West Chester’s Cox Road. “As soon as you walk into the library, customers will notice that the building is bright. It’s not dark and gloomy, it’s light and airy,” then-Branch Manager Steve Mayhugh told a Cincinnati Enquirer reporter.** In the above photo from the Journal News, he is pictured checking out the first book at the new West Chester branch to Patricia Williams, West Chester Township fiscal officer.***

For patrons, the expansive site meant :

*More materials to check out. (“This year, through October 2019, we have circulated 1.098 million items,” reported Amy Young, Branch Manager).

*More classes to attend

*More meeting areas for local groups

*More special programs and guests to enjoy them

*More Internet access for patrons and...

*Access to cutting-edge technology, including our latest endeavor, a new section called “Innovation Pointe – A Brand New Makerspace Experience.” Opening in a few weeks,  “Innovation Pointe” will offer 3-D printers, a laser cutter/engraver, a vinyl printer, button makers, a sublimation printer and presses, a poster printer, sewing machines and film/video conversion equipment to use. Construction is currently underway.
