#triviatuesday: What 1977 film paid homage to several Hitchcock classics, thus becoming a classic in its own right?
On today’s TriviaTuesday blog we celebrate the birthday of the “Master of Suspense,” renowned movie director and TV host Alfred Hitchcock, born on this date in London, England, in 1899. You’re probably familiar with his many film classics such as “The Birds,” “Psycho,” “North by Northwest,” “Vertigo.” (*)
Therefore, in honor of Hitchcock, we offer today’s TriviaTuesday question:
What 1977 film paid homage to several Hitchcock classics, thus becoming a classic in its own right?
Answer: The film, “High Anxiety,” directed by and starring comedian/actor Mel Brooks, spoofed several of Hitchcock’s biggest hits. As such, Brooks’s parody became a comedy classic. It includes many memorable scenes such as:
A park scene in which Brooks’s character sits warily near a tree-ful of birds — and potential droppings — reminiscent of Hitchcock’s “The Birds”
A shower, a bellboy and a rolled-up newspaper, inspired by the Hitchcock thriller “Psycho”
A close-up of Brooks’s character with a fear of heights, a take-off of Hitchcock’s “Vertigo”
“High Anxiety” debuted in 1977 with the description :
“Danger, Intrigue, Romance...and a touch of Kinkiness!”
