With the election just around the corner – just 19 days until November 3rd – let us take a look at when Richard Nixon came to Middletown in 1968.

For information on how to vote early, absentee or on November 3rd, please visit here: https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/. Early voting ends Monday, November 2nd. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is three days before the election in which you want to vote, but voters can submit their application any time. If mailed, absentee ballots must be postmarked by the day before the election in order to be counted. You can also return your absentee ballot in-person to your county board of elections (https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/elections-officials/county-boards-of-elections-directory/)  before the close of the polls at 7:30pm on Election Day.

Richard Nixon (Republican) vs Hubert Humphrey (Democrat) vs George Wallace (American Independent Party)

Butler County Vote: Nixon - 35,962, Humphrey - 23,649, Wallace - 14,118

Butler County Vote Share: Nixon - 48.73%, Humphrey - 32.04%, Wallace - 19.22%

Wallace’s 14118 votes and 19.22% vote share in Butler County were his 8th highest vote total in a single Ohio county and 4th highest vote share in a single Ohio county.

Ohio Popular Vote: Nixon - 1,791,014, Humphrey - 1,700,586, Wallace - 467,495

Ohio Vote Share: Nixon - 45.23%, Humphrey - 42.95%, Wallace - 11.81%

National Popular Vote: Nixon - 31,783,783, Humphrey - 31,271,839, Wallace - 9,901,118

National Vote Share: Nixon - 43.4%, Humphrey - 42.7%, Wallace - 13.5%

Electoral College: 301 (Nixon) to 191 (Humphrey) to 46 (Wallace)

George Wallace ran on a staunch segregationist platform in 1968. Prior to his third party run for president, Wallace was associated with the Democratic Party, having won the Governorship of Alabama in 1964 as a Democrat.
