Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre

What did you find intriguing about this book?

If Jaws made you scared to go into the water, Devolution makes you think twice about going hiking alone in the woods. Sasquatch lore combines with primate behavioral science in this cautionary tale about living "in harmony" with nature alongside dangerous animals. Dare to go for a thrill ride with Max Brooks, your GenX, Bigfoot-obsessed narrator; intrigued by an article "Bigfoot Destroys Town,” he first meets Frank McCray, whose sister Kate Holland went missing thirteen months ago. After a devastating Mt. Rainier eruption, Senior Forest Service Ranger Josephine Schell discovered Kate’s journal "amid the corpses and debris" of Greenloop, a high-tech eco-community cut off from luxuries like telecommuting and drone or driverless smart-car deliveries. Like the best “found footage” movie, Kate’s journal and insights from Schell, McCray and Sasquatch expert Steve Morgan detail how adversity introduced the 11 Greenloop residents to themselves in the fight to adapt and survive, especially after animals fleeing the eruption included very real, very hungry Sasquatches.

WARNING: predatory animal violence and survival situations.

*Suitable for YA fans of Brooks’ World War Z and Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park.
