In 1920, Democrat and Jacksonburg native James M. Cox ran for president. He was joined on the ticket by future president Franklin D. Roosevelt. Cox would go on to lose the 1920 election in a landside to fellow Ohio Warren G. Harding. Cox would carry Butler County by 1552 votes. 1920 is also notable, as it was the first federal election women were eligible to vote in.
