On November 3, 1922 the Hotel Manchester officially opened, bringing a high end hotel to Middletown. Named after the Duke of Manchester, the hotel was such a big deal that the street names of the city were changed. Most notably, Third Street became Central Avenue and First Street became Manchester Avenue.
